not starting help!!

167,000 MILES • 6 CYL • FWD • AUTOMATIC

I have a 93 es 300 lexus and it stopped running by stalling out. Now it wont stay running, no check engine light is on. it will start up then stall out and sometimes it backfires out of the air intake and die. it has 167,000 on it and i dont know when it was last service since i bought it last month.

sounds like the mixture is too lean/quits. i would suspect fuel pump or pressure regulator. when it acts up take a fuel pressure test.
