fuel pump issues

your fuel pump relay went bad. but i'am not sure on that one where it is. which side did the smoke come from? you may have to call ford and find out on the relay. they are usualy out under the hood but they put them where ever they want.NOS

the smoke came from the drivers side. the relay is in a panel box under the hood on the driver's side as well, but the relay doesn't appear to show signs of damage. could it have something to do with my ignition switch being warn as well?

yes very possible. i though possibly that was where it was but you just don't know anymore the way there stuffing them full of electrics

where would the inertia switch be installed on a 93 bronco? i'm not seeing it unless it's completely different than the replacement.


still having issues

most times there mounted on the right side behind the kick panel or firewall. but i have seen them on the firewall driver side little black looking box with a red button. do you have any panel in the back if so it could be in one of thoes (NOS) aburned up ignation switch can cause that problem also a stuck fuel pump relay can do the same thing.

here we are again, still stumped on the fuel system. i'm convinced that it's electrical. i have replaced the fuel pump relay and bypassed the inertia switch, but still no joy. i have less than one week to figure this out. for some reason, my fuel pump will engage when my key is turned on, but it doesn't turn off after the intial pressurising time. it should turn itself off after approx. 2 seconds, but it continues to run. because of this, the truck will not start. the only other thing i can think of is to try the ecc control panel but because of it's location, i'm trying to avoid that. what tells the fuel pump to turn itself off after teh 2 second delay when the truck isn't starting but the key is on? i'm running out of ideas.

i don't have a book right here with me. but i will be able to give you that info tomorrow but there is some grounds the by the battery that you sgoud check to make sure there in good shap and grounded good. now i can tell you that thee EEC relay acts as a switch when you turn the key on it turns the EEC relay on and the fuel pump relay.the EEC relay also turns the computer on it turns the fuel pump relay off till the motor is cranked then it switches it back on. one thing you have to remember is that every time you turn the key on and off it sprays fuel in the motor the plugs may be fouled now. if you have not replaced the EEC relay do so they don't cost much and that will just elimanate it.i will look at a wireing digram tomorrow at work to see how it is run the fuel pump relay is a green one and the EEC relay is the Brown one. when you turn the switch on both relay click on after a few seconds the fuel real shuts off now one of the only reasons that don't happen is if the circut in the EEC relay don't shut off part of it stays on to keep the comp on and part shuts off to turn the fuel pump off till you start to crank . look in on this tomorrow for more INFO.(NOS) 8) PS the switch that you bypassed won.t make one keep runing they will only shut one down if they go bad the truck won't start

ok i got a little more info for you.from the switch a red /light green strip wire. this wire powers the coil it also powers up the EEC realy.out of the EEC relay it changes to a red wire. this wire powers up the PCM which is the computer it powers up the fuel pump realy. i would deffentaly check over the grounds real carefuly on this truck the EEC or which is the same realy as the PCM which is the Power Train Control module. off the fuel pump relay there is a Dark green wire with a yellow strip that comes out of the computer. there is a yellow wire which should be hot all the time at the fuel pump relay. the light blue with orange strip also goes to the computer and the DATA link connector. you ver possibe have a smoked computer. (STOP) check all these circuits first and find the short cause something caused that smoke. don't replace the computer till you find it you may just smoke another computer look for bare wires touching ground somewhere.or even loose grounds can cause enough load on something to smoke wires man hope this tells ya a little more if not get you a good test light and a chilton book they have all the wire Diagrams in them don't get me wrong i don't mind helping ya but sometimes info gets confuseing trying to explain it this way.(NOS) 8)

hey, thanks for all the help. i figured out where the eec computer was and got it out. it's apparent that it was fried. the location is where the smoke was coming from and there appears to be no other damage to the wiring harness. it does however appear to have been wet. all i need to do now is replace it and figure out where the water came in at. once again. i appreciate all the help.

check the inner finder.if water splashes up inside there that is how it got wet in the wheel well there should be a flat peice of rubbr covering the the bottom part of the finder if not water can get up in there that way. and np i like answering just make sure that you send a post to BoB and KEN and tell them. that is how they keep this site open.(NOS)

I Have 1994 Chev S10 4.3 6V Pickup, my fuel pump is only working if I bypass and connect directly to the battery, Once I disconnect will not start, I've replaced the fuel pump and relay. What else can I check... every confused
