Have a start relay you turn on prior to starting. Now I try to start and it tries barely to turn over and negative cable is smoking. Please help!

Please explain this part in better detail (as this does not sound like a 'normal' thing).

"Have a start relay you turn on prior to starting"

Help me to understand!

Yes, it is some kind of after market turn off switch. Turn it on and everything turns on fine, then out of nowhere it started acting like a drained/draining battery. Tried two new batteries and same thing. The back cable is so hot it smokes (battery cable). Thank you for any help! Ryan

No, :/ it is a red key type after market anti theft switch. Honesty has nothing to do with this issue. If I try and start the car it acts like it wants to crank but will not, like the battery, but tried two new ones and same thing. Can I bump/hit starter? Why is negative battery cable so hot/smoking?

Why was this put on to begin with?

Which side of the battery is it hooked to, positive or negative?

Like this, sort of, kind of, maybe?

http://www.wirthco.com/batterydisconnectbatteryswitches/batterydisconnectsquickreleaseswitches.html

Starter could be bad-maybe.

I am thinking a poor connection.

Not enough juice or ground for the starter

Let's look at this stuff first.

See any corrosion?

Grab and twist/see if the there is movement of the cables on the other side of a clamp. Grab twist all battery cable connections to anything (both ends of each cable) There should be no movement!

My link may explain better/ I made pictures at the end of it.

Battery cable hot and smoking can only mean one of two things either the cable had a bad connection or there is too many amps being pulled through the cable. Can you please upload a picture of the part in question so we can see what you are talking about?

Here is a general guide that can help look toward the bottom of the guide:

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

RYAN G,

Gotta always come back to "your thread", gets confusing when you add on to another.

Even more confusing for a guest looking at your problem trying to find an answer to theirs!

"The Boss" (not Bruce Springsteen)

Has answered you above this/my answer.

Thanks!
