Yep. Most vehicles built with a computer control system from the late 80's and up have some type of security information stored in the ECM. The newer the vehicle the more items are tied into the system. You cannot just swap the parts around as the security systems poll the various modules, any module that gives the wrong info will cause the system to shut down the vehicle.
Then you have the more modern modules that need to be programmed just to make them operate and they don't have anything to do with the security system.
