What does "will not start" mean? If the starter doesn't crank the engine fast enough to start, the combination of symptoms suggest the generator has stopped working. Charge the battery at a slow rate for an hour. That should allow you to drive for 15 to 30 minutes to a repair shop to have the charging system tested.

"Alternator" is the generator. To be technically correct, (nit-picking), Chrysler developed the "AC generator" and used it on their 1960 models, many years before anyone else did, and they copyrighted the term "alternator". Today, to standardize terminology, we use "generator", but everyone will know what you mean when you say "alternator".

The story is the same but the names have been changed. Have the charging system tested. That includes the generator, voltage regulator, battery, and wiring.
