I just brought a used truck listed above1500 and it blows some white smoke (not a lot), I am wondering if that is an issue and what is causing this smoke?

Hi,

When anyone mentions white smoke, the first concern is a faulty head gasket. However, that isn't always the case. I'm not sure where you are located, but if it is cool or cold, some steam can be expected. Based on the temperature outside, it can be a little or a lot.

Now, if the white smoke is excessive and has a sweet smell, it could be coolant being burned in the combustion chamber. Coolant burns white and produces a sweet smell that is usually noticeable. If that is a concern, check to make sure the engine coolant isn't low.

If possible, make a video showing the smoke you see, and upload it for me to see. Also, here is a link you may find helpful. It explains what to check for if you expect a head gasket issue.

Let me know if that helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

What I see appears to be normal. Does it eventually stop? What are the temperatures?

Let me know.

Glad to hear that, temperature looks fine, I also didn’t notice any issues with the coolant reservoir liquid level. I probably didn’t drive it enough to tell for sure, but I feel like it does stop after a while.

Hi,

If it was a head gasket issue, the white smoke would be thick and have a sweet smell to it. If you find there are concerns, please let me know.'

Take a look through this link. You may find it helpful.
