No power after replacing the starter

I recently changed the starter on my vehicle and have had no power since. I have checked the few fuses I could find and they are fine. I keep hearing or seeing that there is a fuse box located on the firewall inside the engine area. I do not have one. Help! I want to drive my vehicle and I cannot with no power.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Did you short anything when you were fixing?

No power anywhere or just for the starter?

Let's check the connections to this puppy "solenoid" (picture below) (mine may be wired different than yours). Loosen nuts/move the wires around/tighten the nuts back up.

Also, insure you did not accidentally knock one of the little "push on" connectors off of it.

No luck? Do you have a cheap digital voltmeter (Harbor Freight has them for about $5.00)

Send any more information that may help, pictures are nice too!

I am here for the long haul!

I too, am devastated, if I cannot drive one of my Jeeps.

I believe the solenoid is attached to the starter hence came with the starter and is new as well. Only two wires running to it. I connected everything back to the starter and the solenoid as it was to begin with. Also, I have no idea what this little box is that is bolted onto the inside fender. Could that be the voltage regulator? The wires run to the alternator. Could that be the issue? It is baffling because I did not mess with either one while changing the starter.

I guess I overlooked the V6 part up top there! I guess I tuned into the CJ5 part!

Can you send a picture showing the connections at the solenoid? (So I can see how it is hooked up)

Do you have voltage at the battery cable at the solenoid connection?

Do you have a voltmeter? One step down- a test light?

Yes! That is the voltage regulator-probably no bearing on the situation at hand.

Battery? Volts? Checked connections greatly?

What else is lacking power?

The exact reason you changed the starter to begin with? What was occurring or not occurring?

Is your Jeep a get around on the road vehicle or do you thrash him in the woods and often inflict damage upon him?

Please do try to answer my questions, It is all I have to track things down.

Yes, I do have voltage at the solenoid connection with he battery cable.
Yes, I have a volt meter, not too familiar with how they work but I have one.
Shook and checked all connections.
There has been no power to anything, headlights nothing since I changed the starter.
I changed the starter because there was nothing happening when I turned over the key. No clicking nothing.
This is my third Jeep. I had a 1987 then a 1997. Wanted an old one so I could learn to work on it and fix things myself. No thrashing happening here. Some off reading maybe cross a creek or two but no thrashing.

I just realized in writing my response that I cannot say with any certainty that I had not lost all power before changing the starter. I never checked the headlights to see if they would come on before I changed the starter. Hmm.

Been trying to find a wire diagram, Time to dig out a book.

From the pictures, looks like maybe some of the wiring has been changed.

For now, start tracing the other red wire from the battery (not to the starter).

Check the ground wire (both ends) from the battery.

Set your voltmeter to "20 volts DC" (turn it on). Black lead to the battery ground, the red lead on your red wire, wherever it takes you.

It may lead to the ign switch, check for 12 volts there.

Maybe a wire or connector broke off of a terminal.

Nice looking engine!

Still use the points system?

Send picture of the Jeep, we like to see them too.

I am still digging, keep us posted, too bad you are probably more than twenty miles from me.

I replaced the red wire coming off of the positive cable which leads to a twelve volt flasher fuse, which I also replaced. There is twelve volts at the wire there. There are two other wires leading into that same fuse, one to the windshield wipers and the other to the headlights. It is a bit of a mess right now, but I will send some picks of the Jeep anyway.
