When I drive in cold weather, the warning lights will flash for about 5 seconds or less. It started a bit last year and then went away when it got warmer. It has started again, a bit more frequently.

Hi,

When the check engine light flashes, that is indicating a cylinder misfire is taking place. I noticed you have 112K on the vehicle. Have you replaced the spark plugs yet? If not, that is my first suspect. If they are worn, this can happen because the fuel mixture is much richer when it is cold. The spark being provided may not be enough to burn all the fuel evenly. That can lead to a misfire.

I attached the directions for replacing the spark plugs. However, before you can access them, the ignition coils will need to be replaced. So, the first two pics are the directions for replacing the coils. I'm not suggesting the coils need to be replaced. The directions are to simply explain how to remove and replace them.

Pics 3 and 4 are for the spark plug replacement.

Because the cylinder head is aluminum, make sure this work is done on a cold engine. Also, there may be a plastic cover at top of the engine needing to be removed. It should just clip on and off. However, check to make sure there are no bolts holding it in place.

Let me know if this helps and if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
