Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Volvo S40 6 cyl 105000 miles

I just got in my car in grocery store parking lot, it started just fine, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas to back out, the car dies. I had to drive home with one foot on the gas and one on the brake. What could cause this? It's been fine up to now.

You could have a bad idle control valve. Have it cleaned out along with the throttle. You may even need to have the idle air control valve replaced if it really is faulty? But start with cleaning and let me know what happens.

It ended up being the Air Idle Control Motor. $400 later and now it's running fine. I think I need to take an auto repair class - all these expenses are killin' me!

Thanks so much for answering.
