VW Jetta 1999 Wolfsburg edition 82,000 After replacing starter engine now has hard starting when at an idol of 1200 rpms hit the gas again and idol jumps to 2000 and stays there. Repeated and went to 3000 and stayed there. Shut engine off, had to let it sit over night till it would start again and the same process happened. What is the possible cause for this?

A starter and idle problems have nothing in common. Check you throtle linkage for binding. Clean the throttle wire and the area on the throttle body. Remove the air duct to the throttle body and clean the throttle plate with some good carb cleaner and a tooth brush. It should correct the problem. It will start a little hard the 1st time from the injestion of the cleaner. Let me know

So I dont know. I'll let you know what the dealership says to me if you want to know

Of course I would like to know. I have been in the business 40+ years and I enjoy helping people as much as I can. I am retired and enjoying the good life traveling the country side in our Newmar diesel pusher motor home. Good luck

I got a call back from the dealership. They changed the senser for the temperature for my coolant system and they also did exactly what you told me to do. They said that they were going to wait two hours to see how it started and ran. If it seemed like something else was wrong they were going to have to change the throttle plate. I have another hour to go until they call me back.

A throttle plate is an odd failure unless it was bent because of excess build-up of carbon. You see that kind of problems more in the north country than the south. I live in Biloxi, Ms what's left of it. Let me know--Losone
