1970 Volks Beetle

I bought a 1970 Volks Beetle last summer. I seemed to run good at that time. It would however hesitate once in awhile when taking off from a stop sign, but then would countinue without anymore problems. As the weather has got colder, the car has started doing this more. The car now will start and idle fine, but when letting out the clutch, it losses power and dies. Could this be a bad fuel pump?

If it has a carb, check, choke, accel pump. If it has fuel injection, check fuel pressure.
