Engine Mechanical problem
2006 Volkswagen Jetta 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I made the mistake of going "old school" and changing my own oil for a change. I have a 2006 VW TDI. I think I may have overserviced the oil quantity. The dipstick on that car is hard to see as far as the oil marks. That was in October. I was out of town and hadn't used the car for a month and a half after the change. I am now driving it again and notice multiple drips under the car. It's obviously leaking oil. What are the consequences to overservicing the system, and is the answer to simply drain some oil out? I thought I'd ask before delving into this any further. Could I have done any permanent damage to the engine, and where does the oil leak from in the event that the leak is caused by overservicing.

Hi there,

Drain out the excess oil, and wash down the engine to see where the leak is coming from, if it was way to full, there is some stress in engine seals, but hopefully with the correct level it will be OK, check out where the leak is and report back your findings.

Thanks,

I don't think I overserviced by more than a quart at the very most. I'll check it out.
