I initially brought my car in for brake service, which ended up being $340, but included new struts which my husband said didn't need replacing, but they said they needed to be replaced so I did. Then they said oil is leaking between the cam shafts and would cost $500. I've already told them to start the work because they said the oil leak was a safety issue. For some reason it sounds like way too much money for an oil leak. Can you tell me if it sounds reasonable? Also, they said my timing belt would cost $900 to replace in the near future (80,000 miles). I have brought my car to them in the past and they've never suggested anything that didn't need to be fixed, but I just want to be sure. Thanks!

Are you refering to the valve cover gasket (valves)? If so, 500 is way too much. As far as the timing belt, refer to the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. It will tell you what mileage to have it changed. As far as the cost they quoted, get a second opinion. The belt is around 50.00 and labor shouldn't be more than around 300.00.
