I have a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T, it drives perfect. However, the coolant doesn't return to the reservoir, sometimes when I release the reservoir cap it will start to rise. Sometimes it doesn't. No smoke or sweet smell from the exhaust. Could it be that the reserevoir cap is not sealing tight?

Hi dccolvin,

No, it is not the reservoir cap.

The system is under pressure and when you release the cap, pressure will escape thus the rise in the level.

The coolant is recycling when the engine is started so you would not see much difference in the level.

If the coolant keeps disappearing, you need to check for leakages. Check hose joints.
