My wife recently took her car into the shop to have a check engine light looked at. The VW service station is saying we need to replace the coil pack ($450) and thermostat ($300). I am mechanically inclined but do not want to mess with her car if it will be to complicated to do myself. Any thought on the complexity of these two items for a novice home mechanic?

Thanks.

I have the same car. The coilpack can be bought on Ebay motors for $85 and free shipping. You can remove the old in less that 10 minutes. Just follow the plug wires to the coilpack and mark them so you place them back in the same location(s). $450 is ludicrus
