I bought this car from a dealership 5 years ago, when it had 34,000 miles. The first problem I encountered was that the car, when cold, will sometimes jerk when I start to drive it. I have had mechanics check the level of transmission fluid as I've been told this could be a factor, so I started warming the car up before I drive it. This seems to help. The other problem, which I encountered merely days after I bought the car, is that when I accelerated too quickly, the car emitted a huge cloud of black smoke. I brought it to Volkswagen, and they told me that a pipe had broken and they fixed it. However, it again happened sporadically through the years, with no one being able able to tell me what was wrong. The other day, it did the same thing, only this time with white smoke. I brought it to my mechanic and they told me that the engine burns oil, and they put in 1030 oil. I was given no answer for why this happened, and now I am paranoid about driving the car. The amount of smoke in my wake could clearly cause an accident. Kindly give me your thoughts.

First I would like to ask you how many miles sre on it when it started to expell white smoke the blck smoke is the first signs of piston O rings seal starting to go I know this cause I own a jetta vr6 2000 and I had the same problem but luckly I have worked on cars my whole life so I finally broke the engine down after the tail pipe started to leave the white sky behind me in traffic and found that I needed to replace the piston rings. So I went ahead and replaced the rings pistons push rods cams pretty much everything except the block upon inspection though I never found and serious wear or cracks in anything but when speaking ro volkswagon about the problem through out the weeks I was told it is a common problem in 1999-2003 modles so sorry if this sounds expensive but yeah it is. I would go back to were you bought it and see if they are willing to help with the cost of repairs, if not try replaceing the pistons and seals.
