Water in the oil

I have noticed 'mayo' on my oil dipstick. Also under the filler cap.
I know the filler cap can get condensation. I usually do short journeys too and from work.
But i'm panicking that the 'mayo' on the dipstick means the head gasket has gone?
Is this a definite indication that the head gasket has gone?

Engine is 2.2 16v.

Thank you. Andrea

Hi there,

If the oil is emulsified there is some quantity of coolant entering the sump, usually this will be a head or head gasket issue, are you using coolant? Is there any misfire or white smoke? Get a cooling system check done, and have the system checked for exhaust gasses in the cooling system, this is a simple chemical test that is conclusive for head gasket problems, start here.
