Started having problems as far as my gas pump not kicking in, no taillights. So, I switched a few of the relays around and everything started working. Well now it won't shift. What should I do?

Hi,

Did this happen after switching the relays? Also, is the check engine light staying on? Is the transmission fluid clean and full?

One more question. When you say it won't shift, do you mean it won't go into drive or reverse, or does it stay in first gear when driving?

If you haven't already, we really need to scan the computer to see if there are any codes related to the transmission. Here is a video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner. However, oftentimes a parts store will lend you one.

Let me know as much as you can. Also, let me know the engine size.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, it wasn't happening until we moved relays around and it goes into first gear, I ran the machine on it and got the P0072 code which pertains to the transmission and the P0406 code Exhaust gas recirculation sensor a circuit high.

Hi,

The P0072 indicates an issue with the ambient air temperature sensor. (See pic 1 below)

When you had the computer scanned, was the scanner able to read codes from the can-bus? The codes we have are specific to the engine management and not transmission.

As far as the transmission, since it started when you switched relays, recheck the transmission control relay. Make sure none of the pins in the relay box have been pushed in or are damaged. Also, confirm fuse 15 is good and has power.

If you want, here is a link that explains how to test a relay:

Let me know what you find.

Joe

See pics below Pics 2 and 3 are the wiring schematic for the transmission. I had to cut it in half to make it readable, but I did overlap them so you can follow from one to the next.
