Was driving to pick another car up, got there fine, shut car off, waited ten minutes. Started back up and put it in drive, then it quit. It cranks, but will not start. It sounds like the timing, but belt is still intact. It sounds like it does not have any compression. Any advice? Thank you.

Good morning.

When the belt wears and gets slack in it, the teeth can become damaged and the belt will not turn.

Start with a compression test to verify. Remove the plugs and use a compression gauge. You can rent one at a parts store.

If it is the belt, it is an interference motor which means if the timing is out, valve damage will result. That means the head will have to be removed and the valves replaced. The pistons will also need to be inspected for damage.

Hello PEDRO VELA,

I am sending to a link to a great article from site on "how to do a compression test". This article features written step by step instructions, pictures and two videos (one testing with a gauge and the other testing without a gauge). If you have any further questions please return to this post. We are always happy to help.
