Hello, my name is Neil, first thank you for all you do and as much appreciated.
My problem is the D indicator is flashing on the dashboard. When the car is first started the P shows up but eventually all the emblems clustered together to form the D and flash.
There's no check engine light or real drivability problem and occasional weird shift. It is a CVT transmission. I have done regular maintenance it is a little bit overdue for the transmission. Do you think a service May fix this? Is there a way to retrieve codes without a scanner? Honda wants almost $200 just to hook up the scanner. I have on the vehicle since new and is primarily highway mileage. Any help you can give me as much appreciated. Because Honda before they even have seen the car have said it's a transmission. And it is almost $4,000. Enjoy your day and stay healthy. Thank you for any help you can give me. Neil

Hi Neil,

I would do my own CAN scan which is the future of scanning because it goes over all systems in the car not just the drivetrain. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

here is a video to show you how:

There is no way to get the codes without a scanner. It does sound like a transmission fluid change will help it because the CVT transmission has a high failure rate. Here is a generic guide to help you step by step with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how on your car:

Use Honda HCF-2. Note: Using the wrong type of fluid will damage the transmission. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

Thank you for the quick response. Would Advance, Napa or AutoZone be able to retrieve codes properly? I all by my house. If not, I'm going to invest in the scanner you recommend. Thanks again

I don't think those stores have the CAN scanner, but to be sure you should call them to confirm.
