My car stopped running while driving and I pulled to the side of the road and while still moving I attempted to put it in neutral and accidentally went into reverse. The car started right up after and I drove home. When I started my car this morning and attempted reverse, it made a horrible grinding noise in reverse and would not go. However, forward worked fine. Did I ruin my transmission?

The only thing I can think of is that the sun gear may have gotten messed up from doing what you accidentally did. Have a transmission professional take a peek at it he can probably give you a better idea on what is wrong with it. I am assuming it still will not go into reverse.

Hi NINA,

If I can add something here, it kind of sounds like the shifter cable has come apart either at the shifter or the transmission. Have someone look at the cable end while you move the shifter back and fourth in and out of gear to see if it is moving where it should not.

Please run this test and get back to us so we can continue helping you.

Best, Ken
