Hi, I have a 1999 5 speed manual transmission with 95K miles.

Recently, when I put the car in reverse and my foot on the clutch and the car is completely stopped, I can't get the car out of reverse and the engine stalls.

I have to turn off the car, turn it back on to get the car out of reverse. If I get the car out of reverse before I come to a complete stop, I am ok.

I am a female, if I go the repair shop and explain this, I fear I am going to be told I need a new transmission and or clutch. An outside opinion would give me some confidence.

Thanks

At 95K, I doubt you need a clutch or transmission. It sounds more like a worn linkage or adjustment issue to me. I assume the master cylinder fluid for the clutch is full.(?)

It may not hurt to check the pedal height to make sure it is correct and adjust as necessary:

But I would be sure to check these bushings for excessive wear:
