Good morning,

No, you do not but it would make it a lot easier for the procedure to drop it.

You would need a transmission jack that can support the combination to take it out together.

I posted a you tube video of removal of the transfer case for you.

LOL. I did that only 1 time. From there I took the extra times and dropped the case.

How do you remove the flywheel and torque converter bolts?

There is a plate at the front most likely on the bottom of the housing. You can access them from there. Aside from the big mess you made leaving the converter in, once you remove the bolts for the converter and remove it, there will be 8 bolts for the flywheel.

Roy

If you pulled the transmission without disconnecting the torque converter, you most likely damaged the front seal. Make sure you replace it before installing it.

How do you keep the torque converter from spinning? Because I can get to the nuts but everything I do to keep it from spinning does not work.

Use an air ratchet. That should shock them loose.

Then you need a flywheel tool. Go to a parts store and tell them you need a flywheel holder tool.

About $20.00 to $25.00.

You could also get someone to lock on to the bolt for the harmonic balancer and hold it while you try to loosen the nuts.
