I've got a 1994 Ford F150 with a 5.0L V8. Originally it came with an AODE Automatic, The Tranny went out and from what I've discovered is the AODE is a weak tranny as it seems to be a common problem with Fords. Anyway, I stuck a ZF 5 speed Manual tranny in it replacing all the necessary parts ie, Clutch and brake pedal assembly, etc, I've read on-line that I also need to replace the computer for one that was used in a truck that came stock with a standard trans, I've also read it doesn't matter. I agree that it shouldn't matter as it is my understanding that the computer only controlled the shift points in the AODE. Is it necessary to change computers?

You will have a check engine light but I agree with HMAC300 if the truck seems okay run it!
