Hi,

The information below explains what all the numbers are for on the identification tag. Pic 1 correlates with this info. The number you are referring to is called an assembly number or a broadcast code. It is used during assembly to make sure the correct component is used during assembly.

An identification tag is attached to the rear half of the transfer case. The tag provides the following information:
1. Model number (1)
1.1. First Digit-1 =Single Speed, 2=Two Speed
1.2. Second Digit-2 = T- Utility, 3 =T-Truck, L-Van, 4 or 6 = K Truck and Utility
1.3. Third Digit-1 = Manual, 3 = Electric Shift, 6 = Automatic, 9 = All Wheel Drive
2. Assembly number (2)
3. Serial number (Date & Shift Code) (3)
4. Low range reduction ratio (4)

The information on this tag is necessary for servicing the transfer case. If the tag is removed or becomes dislodged during service operations, keep the identification tag with the unit.

Compare all connections. The assembly number shouldn't change the basic design, but it will be based on what type of vehicle you took it from and what it's going into.

Also, there could a gear ratio difference.
