Occasionally the traction control light will come on and the car sputters when you hit the accelerator. When you stop the engine and restart, the light will go out and the accelerator works fine. It can go days without doing it and shutting the engine off will always stop it.

I would start with a scan to see if it has stored any codes in the system. The description could be in the transmission harness, something that is creating a short that triggers the fault and then goes away. That would allow the reset to clear the code, and it works again. I would start with the scan, and give the wiring harness a good examination, try not to move it but look for places it might be rubbing or stretched. If you find something suspicious then you can dig deeper. Because it doesn't seem to cause other problems it doesn't sound mechanical.
