1995 Toyota Tercel Automatic 180000 miles

The other day I drove the car and it keeps turning off when I'm starting to come to a stop. So to prevent this from happening in traffic I had to put it in neutral so it wouldn't go out and then back into drive when I was going to go.
I'm not sure what was happening. Some suggestions I got were battery cables or maybe the alternator.

Ok thank you. My dad is going to check it out since he is familiar with working on cars and he is going to check out what you told me.
I'll get back to you.
