I recently installed a cold air intake to replace my factory air box. Everything seems to work smooth although when I start and turn off the vehicle I get some kind of a shimmy and rattling noise. It is much more noticeable when starting the vehicle. I am lost as to what is causing the problem. Does not appear to be caused by something that is loose. Any idea as to what the problem is. I find this quite annoying.

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

Are there any engine codes popping up?

Did this problem occur directly after the installation onf the new air intake? If so, you may want to switch out the new intake with the old intake and see if this helps. If it does, you will have go over your new intake to ensure you have it installed correctly and all connectors are fitted properly.

Installing a different intake system will alter the air/fuel mixture ratio. In a fuel injected car, if the computer is working correctly, the oxygen sensor will recognize the higher level of air intake, and adjust the ratio by adding more fuel. If for some reason one of these components are bad, you will have a wrong ratio and will cause these symptoms.

Hope this helps.

There are no codes popping up. The engine runs fine and idles fine. Yes the problem happened directly after the installing the aftermarket intake. I will look over my install, but if all is good what should I try. Also will will the shimmy and noise cause any real problems for my engine?

It may cause poor fuel mileage and bad tempers ;)
Don't worry, we will try our best to diagnose it so you won't have to drive with the annoyance.

I do believe the problem lies with the new intake system. However, if looks correct, check other components around intake system to ensure you didn't accidentally knock anything loose. Also inspect pulleys to ensure they are working properly and are not loose.

I reinstalled the factory air box and the shimmy and knocking noise went away. Would I be correct to say the problem is the intake? Is this normal with aftermarket intakes?
