noise front axle

i have a 1983 toyota 4x4 about 500,000 mile its a 22r engine.. when i lock my hubs in and shift into 4x4 i have what sounds like a bindeing noise..im sure it comming from front axle just not sure where or what it is... any help would be app..

Have you checked the axle's lubrication latly? 1/2 a million miles, I think you done got yer money's worth!!! If you want another 1/2 mil...take the hubs aprt and inspect it!

yes i take them apart yearly to regrease them..it sounds like it more in the shaft area..

Could be...there are 2 different types of joints in front, 1 U-Joint 2 CV-Joint both will make noise when out of grease, both need to be replaced, not greased! You'll need to remove the brakes and the spindle and pull axle thru the front!
