Warning Lights

Hello, I have a 96 Corolla, 155000 miles, 4-cylinder, automatic. I'm having an issue where my warning lights and my tail lights are not coming on unless I press down the brake pedal. My head lights still come on normally, but no warning or tail lights. My dash board lights only come on when I brake as well. In addition, if my foot is on the brake pedal when the car is off, it sets off the tone for leaving my headlights on and the dashboard/tail/warning lights all come on. I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Has anyone installed any aftermarket electronics under the dash? Sounds like you have a bad ground. Installers will sometimes use (scotch-locks) which clamp onto a wire, breaking it. Has the car been in any accidents?

I was rear-ended about 3 months ago, but the problem just happened recently. Also, as far as I know, there have been no modifications done to the electronics. I replaced the fuse for the tail lights and now they come on without the brake pedal being pressed However, after I take the key out of the ignition, I am still getting the tone and the lights all come on. Hope that's helpful.

Check all grounds under the dash carefully. Could possibly be a bad headlight switch, possibly even an ignition switch. Also check all grounds at the lights for good contact
