How do I get the new belt back on the engine? I would also like to know if I can get a diagram for the tension bar and how to get the belt on right?

My TOYOTA COROLLA 2000 CE is making rattling noise. It is coming from down under the hood. When I turn the steering wheel the noise goes away. Some times the noise goes away magically for no reason. I showed my car to a mechanic, they asked me to change the serpentine belt, which I did but the noise is still there. They also changed the pulley but the noise is still there.
Other mechanic said that it might be timing chain. Somebody else said that A.C. Compressor has problems but my A.C. Works fine (it blows cold air). I am confused, could you guys please help me?

If you changed the belt you shold have changed the tensioner as well. You can still do that. But disconnect the belt and seeif noise disappears. If it does then its 'internal to engine.

Noises problem
2001 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl 77500 miles

Hello,

Great to find this portal in the internet. I am facing noise issue with my toyota corolla 2001 model having milege of 77500. Though it is not very loud but when I asked my toyota dealer he told me to change the engine belt as it is getting loose which creates noise. He did not say that it isurgent but warned me that it might break anytime.

Please let me know what exactly could be the problem and if possible, pls provide me more description about the belt he is talking about.

Thanks

He must be talking about the serpentine belt since the 1ZZFE engine is equipped with a timing chain, not a timing belt.

The serpentine belt could be bad or the tensioner bad.

I would go ahead and change the serpentine belt and tensioner. If it breaks you will lose the AC, alternator, power steering etc.
