1999 Toyota Corolla Automatic

1999 Toyota Corolla (137,000 miles). Bought it used 6 months ago and had it checked out by Toyota dealership who told me it was fine. Oil light has always flickered on and off but after I was in a car accident (front damage, none to engine or so they told me), the oil and brake light kept turning on and off. Had it checked by same autoshop where they changed the oil, checked pressure and inspected my car. They told me it was fine. Four days ago, my car shut down on an expressway. The oil light flickered on and off and then stayed on for about 20 minutes. Then the battery light came on and make car shut down. No compression. Had it towed to the nearest Toyota dealership where they tell me I need a new engine and new strut mounts (passenger side strut is gone, driver side has cracks in it). The tell me it will cost between $5000 and $6000 to repair. My car cost me $5000 and I still owe about $3000 on it. What is your best advice?

If the accident was not your fault, go after the insurance company for hidden damage.
If it was your fault, contact insurance company and see what they can do, (they may total it if cost exceeds value)

Otherwise, look for a used engine and an ASE mechanic who does work on the side and replace the engine.
