Thanks for the rapid response. I guess what i'm trying to grasp, is will a bad fusible link cause the internal voltage regulator in the alternator to pop. This has happened twice and it is immediate.

HEY RAZZY, DIDN'T RECOGNISE YOUR AVATAR

Ronson, SO LIKE SORTA EXPLAIN THIS IN A FLOWING ORDER

I'LL START YOU OUT

EVERYTHING WAS A-OK PRIOR TO THE "JUMPAGE"

THEN WE SOMEHOW MESSED UP THE "JUMPAGE" (SPARKING, WRONG POLE TO WRONG POLE)

THE VEHICLE RAN, UNTIL "MR. BATTERY" DIED, DUE TO NOT CHARGING (FOR EITHER LACK OF ALTERNATOR OR LACK OF THE ABILITY TO ROUTE ELECTRICITY BACK TO THE BATTERY OR BOTH)

WE ARE INSTALLING AN ALTERNATOR.-.-.-.-.-.-.-THEN JUMPING IT OFF TO RUN?

THIS IS MY GUESS, AT THIS POINT (RAZZY SURELY WILL GIVE HIS OPINION TOO!)

IF THE FUSIBLE LINK IS SHOT, NUTHIN' WILL GET BACK TO THE BATTERY TO CHARGE IT

BEAR WITH ME, GOOD OLE DAYS STORY

1960-70 SOMETHING, EITHER MY BATTERY IS DEAD OR MY ALTERNATOR/ GENERATOR AIN'T ALTERNATIN'

LETS JUMP IT OFF!

IT'S ALIVE!

SNATCH OFF A BATTERY CLAMP

IT'S STILL ALIVE!

MR. ALTERNATOR/ GENERATOR MUST BE JUST FINE!

I STILL LIVE IN THEM DAYS - EVERYDAY!

FAST FORWARD TO THE DAYS OF YOUR CAR DOES EVERYTHING FOR YOU (AND IS SO DANGED COMPLICATED)

1980s ON UP

SNATCH A BATTERY CABLE OFF? (NEVER!!!)

---OR LETS SAY THE FUSIBLE LINK "DID THAT FOR YOU" AS IT ATTEMPTED TO PROTECT

MR. REGULATOR, MRS. MOTHERBOARD(S), ALL OF YOUR COMPUTER/ ELECTRONIC CRAP

SO RIGHT NOW, MY GUESS AS TO WHATS HAPPENING IS

YOU ARE BYPASSING THE "BLOWN SAFETY FEATURE" WHEN YOU FIRE IT UP BY JUMPING, OR A FRESH CHARGED BATTERY

THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT GETTING JUICE BACK TO THE BATTERY SO IT'S PROBABLY SORTA SPIKING OUT WITH VOLTAGE SURGES (LIKE TAKING THE BATTERY CLAMP OFF NOW-A-DAYS) MR. REGULATOR CAN'T HANDLE IT, SO IT CROAKS!

FIX THE LINK

IF YOU ARE BUYING ALTERNATORS OVER AND OVER, THIS LINK MIGHT AID YOU IN SOME WAY. "A124", EVEN AFTER A YEAR, STILL WORKED FOR ME 3 DAYS AGO

I was driving down the road my heat went out and cluster where the guages stopped working. Well lights started going dim and the battery completely drained out and the car cut off. Had it towed to my house and then I swapped the alternator out but that didn't fix it so now I'm just clueless and don't know what else it would be.

What does "didn't fix it" mean? What are the symptoms? Tests performed and the results? Did you charge the battery or just expect it to become charged by itself?

I charged the battery completely and swapped out the alternator neither one of them helped. The cluster is still out and the heat, radio won't work windows won't roll down. What else could it be. A electrical problem.

Most likely you already solved the cause of the original problem with the new generator. To verify that, use an inexpensive digital voltmeter to measure the battery voltage while the engine is running. If you find between 13.75 and 14.75 volts, the charging system is working properly and we can move on to the dead systems.

The most likely cause cause for them is blown fuses. It is common for a few fuses to blow when you reconnect a battery. That is due to the current surges from all the computer memory circuits charging up. Simply replacing the blown fuses is all that should be needed for that.

Next time it refuses to start don't wait for it to make up its mind-do below immediately to determine if its fuel or spark problem

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if okay-check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing
