Engine misses at idle sped

My 1996 SR5 V6 4Runner has 148,000 miles and misses at idle speed / when the RPM's are low. For example, when I am going about 50mph, and the RPMs are around 2,000. I will try to acclerate and the engine misses. It runs smoother as soon as it downshifts and the RPMs increase. It will also miss when I am just sitting there idle. I had the timing belt replaced at 120,000 miles. The transmission was flushed, and the fuel filter was also replaced very recently. I also just replaced the spark plugs and wires. My next step will be to replace the ignition coil packs. Hopefully that will fix the problem, and I won't need a compression check. But I would appreciate any advice.

I won't need a compression check. You do

The compression check is done to evaluate the condition of the engine. You can throw new parts to it and if there's a problem internally your right back to square one.

My advise is to check the actual fuel pressure-and these CTS/TPS/MAF sensor-to include the VSS.

Engine in perfect condition, it leaves the fuel and ignition wide open-diagnosis should be in order for this two to get to the problem and who knows it might be coming from an emission control devices.

Good Luck
