4 runner stuck in reverse

I have a Toyota 4 Runner I put it in reverse and it is stuck there I have tried everything I kwow to get it out but no luck it is a five speed manual shift four wheel drive. Thanks to all who replied I have solved the problem. Thanks again!

check the connections to the shifter that go to the transmission

Check the bush under the ball of the gear shifter, these break and you sometimes loose some movement on the selector (won't go in or out of gear) if this is ok you may have a broken de-tent spring , this is a spring and ball that locks out gears so you wont select 2 gears at the same time. If this is so, the box will have to be removed to repair.
