My car has an automatic transmission; but I sometimes use the 2nd and 3rd gear when I'm going down a mountain road (which is everyday). When I'm in 3rd gear; the gear slips into Drive; and kinda bounces back and forth from 3rd to drive. However, when the gear shift is in normal the normal drive position it doesn't slip at all.
My mechanic says it's the internal gear mechanism that has broken and it will cost a $1000 to repair.
I don't have a $1000 to repair it. My question is: Will I damage the transmission if I continue to drive it?
Thanks so much

it will get worse and will leave you stranded.a pressure problem is causing it to go in and out of gear. any other parts that are causing any parts too wear are causing little metal pieces to go all through the trans. if u keep driving it u may need a total rebuild. u asked the question and i'm trying to answer it..
