I have a small ticking noise coming between the transmission and the motor very light ticking no change in performance of the engine or the transmission shifts fine. Check the fly wheels it seems to be fine without physically pull the transmission. I’m just wondering if you have any idea what else it could be.

Hi,

Often, it is an exhaust leak. Does it change with engine speed or engine load? I'm not sure which engine you have, but these trucks commonly develop an exhaust manifold leak that makes a ticking sound.

Check that and let me know your thoughts. Also, let me know if you have already checked for leaks. If it has the 4.6L or the 5.4L, this would be my first suspect.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Different transmissions were used in the same year. That isn't something that I could answer without a lot of information. Plus, you could have the same model transmission that is electronically set up differently.

Explain what happened. Are you certain the transmission is bad, and it isn't related to a solenoid or the range sensor?

Let me know.

When you shift through the gears, does the gear indicator show the correct gear selected? Have you checked the transmission fluid condition and level? Do you hear anything when you place it in gear? Also, do you have a scan tool that can read all codes (CAN-bus)?

I'm not saying it isn't the transmission. I just want to be sure.

Let me know.

Yes, I check the fluids they’re full and when I shift the indicator states what gear I’m in and no, I do not have a scan tool that can form those kinds of scans for me. When the truck was running before the transmission went, there was like a little ticking noise I was indicated like a lot of the flex plate, or the fly wheel is cracked, or the starter was not disengaging properly. Then all of a sudden, I’m driving I gave her a little bit of gas there’s a high whining noise and I tried switching through my gears to try to get the truck off the road and I have nothing.

I’m going to get underneath the truck tomorrow and see if I can figure out what transmission I have in it.

Hi,

Is the truck a 2wd or 4wd? I will try to cross-reference a few years. That is the only way I can check. My concern is one year may work, but the manufacturer may have changed the part number.

Let me know.

Hi,

I attached the OEM part numbers from 2006 to 2009. The only year that offers the same part number is 2008.

Based on that information, which is the only likely match. Take a look and you'll see what I mean.

Let me know.

Joe
