Hi,
If the third light works but the others don't, either we lost power to the two on the sides or ground. However, the third brake light has common ground with the others, so again it should be okay.
The power to all brake lights comes from the same place. So, if the third works, which is the first in the series, the others should work unless the splice has failed.
If you look below, I attached a wiring schematic of the brake lights. Note the light green wire goes to each of the three bulbs. That is the power supply wire for the brake lights which is supplied directly from the brake light switch under the dash. The first light powered is the third brake light and then note the dashed line going to the other two lights. The dashed lines indicate they are part of the same circuit.
Here is what I need you to do. Check the light green wires on each side for power when the brake pedal is depressed, and the third brake light is on. If there is no power, remove the third brake light and check the light green wire to make sure where it's spliced, everything is good.
If there is power, then you need to confirm the black wire has continuity to ground. In this case, if the turn signals work and parking lights work, the ground is good and doesn't need to be checked.
My first suspect is the splice at the 3rd brake light has failed. When you check the light green wires for power, if they do have it, my next suspect is the dual element bulb is bad or the light sockets.
Let me know what you find.
Take care,
Joe
