I bought this car in August used. I had problems with shifting into reverse, it would grind. In November I smelled a burning which I though was my clutch burning. On a trip into the Texas Hill counrty the car kep losing speed and I kept losing gears that would make the car move forward. I can put the clutch in to start it and then I can shift into gear with out putting the clutch in. How can I tell if it is my clutch or transmission? I am single and do not have anyone who is really mechanical. Please help, I got to drive it 3 months now I borrow a car to get to work. Thanks, Connie

Hi from Australia Connie :)
It definitely sounds to me as if your Clutch is gone. Take it to a Mechanic and have it diagnosed. BUT. The Golden Rule is. Tell him that you want the Car fixed and that you will hold him to his diagnosis. If he cant agree to that then take it elsewhere. If it no longer drives then you can just as easily call a Mobile Mechanic who will fix it right in your Driveway at home.
Just make certain that they tell you what is wrong. What they are going to do about it. And how much it will cost. Then tell them that they must inform you of any extras involved before adding anything to your Bill.
Take care. Hope you're back on the road soon. Paul :)
