Slipping Transmission

I have a 2001 Forrester, auto trans, 49,000 miles.

When it is very cold outside and just starting out to drive, the transmission slips between 2nd and third gears. Other than allowing time for the car and its juices to warm up, is there any concern with the transmission as a whole?

When the car is warmed up and/or it is warmer outside, there is no problem.

Thanks.

I have had similar tranny problems and while researching I came across some interesting info. I believe its the '99-'01 subarus with 4spd. Auto trans that have an automatic transmission temp sensor that when cold, won't allow (or smoothly allow) the car to shift up. (The article only mentioned up into 4th gear)
The article stated that this is normal operation despite the harsh/ inconvenient feel of the shifting, and that there is no mechanicle problem and once th transmission fluid warms up it will operate without such symptoms.
