There are lots of possibilities. Since its an 89 and it has a distrinuter its a Loyale. Loyales break timing belts like nobodys business. Remove the Distributer cap look at the rotor, turn the engine over and see if it spins if not the l/h timing belt is broken. If it does the diagnoses will become more coplicated. And if youre already mad it might be better to let a tech look at it
