Stuck door latch

Door latch won't allow door to shut. We put engine oil in the lock it's the only available lubricant to us right now. Tried to pry it forward but it won't open. Help!

It sounds like the door latch has failed but there are some other things we can try.

However, if I understand correctly the first thing, I would try is just using the interior door handle and pull it and see if that releases the latch.

A lot of times these latches get flipped and that will release them quickly.

However, if that does not work then we will need to remove the door panel that will show us what is going on inside with the latch.
