I'm getting fuel but, here's the thing: so I had put gas in it some gas in it it's been sitting for a little while I turn the key to the on position so the fuel pump can Prime the lines or whatever then I turn it off and on I do this about three times and try to start it and nothing and then I do it again but this time on one of the key turns when I go to the on position all of the console lights come on and then I hear a ding, ding, ding, and the thing fired right up I let it run for a second and I turned it off because I was told it's probably going to need some transmission fluid so I go get transmission fluid and I come back and I put it in and I put oil in and I go to start the car and it doesn't start again when I turn the key to the on position the shift indicator light comes on and the radio comes on and that's about it and I've never heard the ding ding, ding, again.

Hi,

Based on the description, it could be a few things. The first thing I thought of was the ignition switch may be failing. However, there are other things as well to consider.

Do me a favor. I need you to check for diagnostic trouble codes that may be stored. If you look at the attached link, it explains how it's done. Because of the model year, it will have an OBD1 system that doesn't require any tools to retrieve codes. Follow the link and let me know if you get any codes.

Also, let me know how long the vehicle sat before you tried starting it again. You mentioned it sat for a while.

Take care and let me know what you find.

I've tried to retrieve trouble codes from the console using the key and going on off on off on off on with the ignition switch and no check engine light comes on at all. The only lights that come on at all on the console are the shift indicator light that says I'm in park and then the emergency brake light keeps flashing. Like I said before at one point when I turn the key to on position all the lights came on and there was a dinging, but I haven't heard it again and the car sat for about 3 years and then I started messing with it and got it to fire up one day and actually run for about 5 minutes. It hasn't started again since. Thank you again for your time and all your help.

Hi,

If it has been sitting that long, start checking connectors at the PCM, battery terminals/ground, and the ignition switch itself. It sounds like a poor connector issue.

Let me know what you find.
