First thing you need to do is determine if you are missing fuel or spark. Being it is an
S-10 my bet is on a failed fuel pump but you still need to test it to determine the problem.
Do you hear the fuel pump turn on for two seconds when you turn on the key?
If you do not reach under the truck and give the fuel tank a few good hits with your hand or a rubber mallet, then try turning the key on and see if you hear the pump now.
Sometimes that can knock a bad pump enough that you can at least start the engine.
If you do hear the pump then you need to check it for proper pressure output.

is a generic guide of the tools and how to test the pressure. You need at least 41 psi.
If you have that and it hold steady then you will need to check for spark.
A common failure item on the 2.2 is the ignition module, followed close by the crank position sensor. A quick check of the crank sensor is to look at the tachometer if you have one, if it does not move while you crank the engine it is a good bet the crank signal is missing.
A quick way to test both fuel and ignition is to use a quick spray of starting fluid into the air intake, then see if the engine tries to run. If it does you know you have spark but are missing fuel. If it still does nothing you still test farther.
