Hi Joe,

That does not look like the one I have. The one I have fits 1995 Blazer up to 2005. The timing chain cover is plastic.

They likely used the pic I attached as an example. Take a look at the one I attached below. It is for the same engine. The picture is from the directions to replace the timing chain.

Hi Joe,
Yes, that is a picture of the one I have and that's the TDC mark. But there is only one mark so why would the original dampener have two? Everything I have read says the one I have is the correct one, but I don't understand how it could be correct when the original one I replaced had two marks. I'm getting desperate here because I can't find the timing mark when it is running. I don't know what to do at this point. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I'm not sure why the OEM had two marks. That is odd. However, the new one's mark has to be the correct mark otherwise you would never be able to get it in time.

Have you tried taking a sharpie marker and highlighting the timing mark on the pulley? I always have to do that to see it.

Hi Joe,
Guess what? I found the timing mark and I was able to time it correctly. If I didn't have to take the starter out, I would not have been able to see the mark. So now that problem is fixed, but there is a code for EGR failure. You are right, I am not having much luck, but I'm close. I will let you know what happens with the EGR. You've been great. Hope my luck changes. Thanks.

That's good news. What code do you have related to the EGR? If you remove it, check for carbon in the valve and the intake to make sure there isn't a restriction.

Hi Joe,

Code 32 is the one that came up with the EGR valve. I tried cleaning it because it did have a lot of carbon, but it still did not look right, so I replaced it. It runs like crap. It idles really rough especially below 20 mph, once it gets above 20 or 30 mph, it drives ok. The new EGR did not help. In fact, another code 44 came up and that code is for a lean condition. If you can suggest what I need to check I will appreciate it. I'm going to check the fuel pressure right now and I will get back to you.

Hi,

If you have a lean mixture, that is usually either the result of low fuel pressure or a vacuum leak. Have you checked both?

Let me know. Here is a link that explains how to check for a leak. I'm not sure if I sent it to you or not.

Also, the code, 44, may be related to a problem with the oxygen sensor. If you clear the code, see if it comes back. However, I have a feeling it is a vacuum leak. That often causes a rough idle.

The PCV valve was dirty. I replaced it now it's good. There were big chunks of carbon 3 of them. Now it runs fine. Going to get the smog rechecked on Monday.
