Based on your description, it sounds like one of two possible problems. First, the fuel system is not holding pressure. As a result, it takes additional time to build enough pressure to start the engine. Or, you could simply have what I call a lazy fuel pump. Basically, it can't produce the fuel pressure needed to start the engine normally. If I provide directions, can you check fuel pump pressure, the fuel pressure regulator, and drop off pressure? You will need a fuel pressure gauge. Most parts stores will lend one to you.
Let me know.
