2005 Saab 9-3 repair Question

I have a saab linear 9-3 tid sport whilst comming to a stand still i noticed that the engine tick over had moved higher than normal ie 1100 rpm ,when i parked the car i could smell like of a over heating/burning, when i tried to start the car 6 hours later the battery was flat so after charging the battery it started but noticed that the interia lights were dim CAN ANYONE SUGEST WHAT THE PROBLEM IS

do this start vehicle ,now remove neg battery terminal ,is the vehicle still running or did it stall out ?,reason i want u to do this is because u sound like u have a alternator issue or some electrical problem ,post back with answer .
