My car's RPM's starts really high. It then shoots up while I’m driving causing the car to stall. My gas cap light is showing and i can't get it off. is that the problem?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

The gas cap light shouldn't have anything to do with this. However, I'm a bit confused. You indicate that the rpm's shoot up causing the engine to stall. Can you explain? Does it seem as if the transmission is slipping?

Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, you need to have it scanned to identify diagnostic trouble codes that will be related to the issue.

If you could, explain what you meant, if there are any specific conditions that results in the problem, and if it only happens at specific speeds, temperatures, anything you can think of.

Thanks,
Joe
