Engine Performance problem
1996 Renault Clio Automatic 127000 miles

hey, I lent my sister my car for the weekend, on the sunday she came home without the car, as she had ran out of petrol, (stupid cow) so I went with a petrol can and put 5 pounds worth in, but the problem is the car just wont start. When I first put it in the engine started but quickly cut out then after a few times of that happning it wouldn't even fire up for a second like it was before, now it just turns over but just wont start, any help at all what it could be will be really appreciated.
thanks everyone.A.B

The symptoms of it firing up and then dying immediately it sounds like your immoboliser has kicked in. A common fault on this model. Is the little red light on dashboard flashing real fast when you turn ignition to on position?

The light (red bulb) will flash on/off real fast if immobolized. It should light up for 3 seconds when you first turn the key to ON position. You cannot miss it if it's flashing. I can't recall exactly where it is on your model it's either on centre of dash display. Centre console near radio or on the middle centre of dashboard near windscreen. Let me know?

Thankyou so much, I put in a new battery today and it was flashing as you said, I only asked were it was located as the car as two little red lights im not sure what the others for? But anyway I was adviced by someone that if it was the immobalizer that had come on, to lock and unlock the car manually then try starting the car within 30 seconds, and guess what? It started first go! Not a moment too soon either as I go back work tommorow.

Thanks again for answering, I owe you one :)
