Hi,
The liquid sound has me confused. Can you tell approximately where it is coming from? Also, when it does finally start, have you ever noticed black smoke from the exhaust?
The idea that you have to press the accelerator usually indicates the fuel pressure is too high and flooding the engine. By pressing the pedal, you turn off the fuel supply to clear a flooded engine.
Next, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, have the computer scanned. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scan tool. However, often times a parts store will check for codes free of charge. If you have it done, let me know what the codes are that you found.
If possible, let me know approximately where the sound is coming from and if you ever noticed black smoke from the exhaust. This sounds like the crankshaft angle sensor or the fuel pump has gone out, when you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down this guide and report back.
Take care,
